Class Action against Tobacco Companies for Selling Light Cigarettes

A Federal Judge ruled in favor of certifying a class action against the nations two largest tobacco companies for selling light cigarettes when the companies internal research showed they knew the risks to be about the same for non light cigarettes. The tobacco companies plan to appeal. Regardless of the validity of the courts decision, stock prices for the Phillip Morris USA Inc and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co stock plunged. A study conducted found smokers would have expected discounts for the sale price of each pack of cigarettes had they know the truth about the risks.
